MERCIAN DEVELOPMENT ACADAMY
The Mercian Development Academy harnesses the talent of young rugby league players in an environment that encourages every player to realise their potential, both on and off the field.
The MDA provides a structured pathway to support the development and transition of promising young rugby league players through the playing ranks, from development to the full time educational academy through to the professional game then ultimately Super League.
We are partnered with Castleford Tigers of the Super League & one most famous Rugby League Clubs in the World. This includes coaching support from them & coaching sessions delivered up in Castleford to.
The Academy focuses on high-school aged players 12-15 years for Development Squads & 16-19 years for the full time educational Academy.
2020 COLLEGE APPLICATIONS
The Mercian Development Academy are now inviting applications from current year 11 pupils for our Category 3 Rugby League Development Academy.
The BTEC level 3 – National extended diploma in Sport course is worth up to 3 A-levels & students can then go on to a university education or into the workplace as a result of successful completion of the 2 year course.
The Mercian Development Academy Of Rugby League at Dyson Perrins Church of England Academy, Malvern will be taking students in from this September. Students will enjoy taking part in Rugby League training, including strength and conditioning sessions and a technical rugby league training programme.
Students will be able to concentrate on their studies – whether sports-related or not - whilst gaining specific Rugby League programme which allows them to develop, with guidance from our professional coaches and other support staff.

Academy players are selected by the MDA recruitment manager, with the assistance of trusted local coaches, in late February/ early March of each year.

Various junior league & union games in regional areas
School & club representation
Other recruitment is open for players via:
Local appointed talent identifiers.
Direct approach from coaches or parents.
Players identified for inclusion are then invited to attend development or academy sessions with an eye to either joining an age specific Development Squad or the Academy.
