DYSON PERRIN SIXTH FORM COLLEGE
Welcome to Dyson Perrins Sixth Form College, ours is a warm Sixth Form that aims to nurture students both academically and through offering opportunities to help leadership potential grow. We provide an atmosphere in which students are offered the stepping stones to success, ensuring they achieve a high level of academic and personal accomplishments.
The College is home of the Mercian Development Academy, accelerating the development of young talent to professional Rugby League whilst providing full time Dyson Perrin education.
As part of our inclusive approach we have a strong pastoral system where students are monitored closely and support is given when needed. We welcome applications from students from other academic establishments. New students settle in very quickly and are valued members of our community.
We will do our very best to respond to your individual needs to ensure that you achieve your full potential both academically and personally.
Our curriculum for our Rugby League Academy students is a great balance between academic & sporting excellence. With the students studying in the mornings and then undertaking their coaching in the afternoons.
With great sporting & academic facilities they can learn, play & have a great future ahead of them.
Our student players learn from day one that rugby league and education is given equal importance; this makes up our vision of ‘The Academic Athlete’.
With a first class education & first class coaching we know we will be proud of our MDA students success. Whether they become Super League players or graduates. Hopefully both!
A range of BTEC 3 Courses are available including Sport, Law, Applied Science, Art & Design, Business, Health & Social Care, Digital Media, Food Science, IT, Performing Arts & Animal Care.
Students undertake a number of units for which they present evidence, based on real-life work and studies. This allows them to demonstrate their skill and knowledge in practical situations.
With a BTEC, progress is measured throughout the course, allowing students to gauge their own performance on a continuing basis. Students have to meet deadlines set by teachers. Progress is monitored individually by teachers who provide personal support and guidance, helping students develop their learning skills and reach their potential. Learning is progressive, from small-scale and simple topics to larger and more complex themes. Rules only allow for one formal set of feedback. 50% of the course will be externally examined.
Each BTEC unit is graded individually with students being able to attain a Distinction Star, Distinction, Merit or Pass overall.
The Level 2 Technical certificate route is examined through coursework, external units and work experience.
At Dyson Perrins there are six fully equipped computer rooms. In addition there is a Sixth Form Study Room in which there are computers exclusively for the use of Sixth Form students.
There is also a well-stocked Sixth Form Library containing documentation on universities, careers and how to complete UCAS applications. The Study Room is a silent area; if students wish to work in groups or pairs to discuss their learning the Sixth Form Library is an ideal location.
There is also a Common Room equipped with lockers, tea and coffee making facilities, dishwasher and comfortable seating. This is used by Sixth Form students in their lunch and break times.
Parents’ Consultation Evening; There will be a formal evening for parents to discuss the progress of students with subject staff & of course their MDA Coaches.
Report cards will also be sent home every half term.
